Adaptec AHA-2940UW
Mark: Good I can say definitively that
Adaptec AHA-2940UW/2940U2W/2940AU/3940(UW[?])/29160/29160LP all work with
Bootable JFS - which I've been booting with since September 2004, when the
installed boot-volumes on HPFS were able to be converted to bootable-JFS.
I used the narrow 2940AU (50-pin) via a PCB converter that converted 80-pin
SCA or 68-pin regular LVD/SE to 50-pin SCSI2. All of the others ran/are
running with 69-pin cables/connectors.
Lewis Rosenthal mentioned that SCSI-RAID on HP servers wouldn't boot
JFS, but that's a different level of equipment - I think, unlike all
of the above Adaptec HBAs which all support INT13 extensions, the
HP/CPQ Server's HBA (brand unknown) did not support that feature,
and that capability is required for JFS-booting on SCSI. You'll
probably find that LSI also supports INT13X - I'm almost certain.
My very good friend, the late Don Woodall in Michigan would definitely
have been able to tell you about the LSI products as he had a bunch of
them - and would have had them all running JFS-boot!
