Microsoft continues his battle with OS/2. Here is a collection of messages related to ATMs battle.

  1. Operating System Choices for ATMs

    According to this Microsoft propaganda, IBM will stop supporting OS/2 at the end of this year. Of course, "support" is a very vague term - on the one hand, they have already ended "support" for OS/2, and on the other hand, they have promised to deliver device driver "support" for a few more years.     Please also remember to add this features to the Windows ATMs Machines

    • Now you will need to Patch your Windows ATM machine at lease once each month due security bugs that microsoft posts. (More maintenace Costs)
    • Your ATM machines will get virus at least each 2 months (Many Windows ATMs network had been reported to get viruses) (More costs on fixing this machines)
    • You will need to buy an antivirus program for every ATM machine (More Costs on Antivirus Software)
    • Are you going to be so smart to get out of a close propieraty OS to fall into another ??

A recent disclosure by Diebold that its automated teller machines operated 
by two financial services customers were struck by the W32/Nachi worm has 
heightened concern of even wider disruptions from virus and worm outbreaks, 
and highlights a growing security concern about vulnerability of cash 
machines running Windows XP and interacting with other Windows systems....
  3. Windows-run ATM hit by virus

    Automatic teller machines at two banks running Microsoft Windows software were infected by a computer virus in August, reports MSNBC news here.

    That's alarming, but not so much because the ATMs were infected. Rather, it's frightening because banks are apparently using an ordinary, commercial Microsoft O/S which is itself plagued by virus-slash-security problems and needs constant fixes and patches....
